Social Media Influencer Pemphero Mphande has asked Malawians to stop celebrating Independence Day claiming that Malawi is not independent.
Mphande made the statement through his official facebook on Thursday as Malawi celebrates 59-years of independence.
According to Mphande, Malawi is like a 59-year-old man who lives in his father’ house and depends on begging for survival.
He further said that Africa is very rich a continent with very poor people and poor minded people.
“A country that survives on begging is not independent. Malawi is like a 59 years old man living in a house that his parents left to him but to survive he has to beg his friends, neighbors and relatives.”
“This man is not independent. He is lazy and entitled. We must stop celebrating Independence Day and get to work until we start making better of our economy, and stop begging,” said Mphande in a facebook post.
He adds: “The 59 year old lazy man will only be independent once he gets out of his parents’ house, goes to work and stops begging.
“Why should Malawi and Africa be celebrating years of poverty and begging? It is because we celebrate failure that we don’t push ourselves to win!”
Malawi holds celebrations every July 6 since it gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1964, and this year is being celebrated under the theme “Renewed Unity and Patriotism for Our Country.”
