FEBRUARY 2, MANA:The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Dr Ben Phiri Saturday said the construction of Namitambo Market and bus depot in Chiradzulu would bring economic migration.
Speaking during a ground breaking ceremony of Namitambo Market and bus depot, the Minister said the market would bring a good business environment and Improve economic status of the surrounding community.
“This will help to bring back the money into people’s pocket as the contractor will employ people from the same area,” he said.
Phiri advised the contractor to do a good work, saying that they would not pay any contractor who has done sub-standard work as advised.
Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Joseph Mwanamvekha, who is the Member of Parliament for the area, thanked government for brining development projects in area saying that people from his area wanted a modern market and a depot.
He advised people in the area to take good care of the market and not to steal materials from the contractor.
Mwanamvekha revealed that apart from the market and bus depot, government was constructing Nsoni Community Technical College and was planning to start constructing a boarding secondary school in the area.
Sub Traditional Authority (STA) Mpunga assured the contractor of the safety of all materials.
Fidelis Building Contractor Managing Director, Joseph Mataka promised to construct a market in a period of five months that would last long.
The market and bus depot will cost K 1 billion and consists of 40 shops and three butcheries. The construction work is expected to complete in five months.
