Rwandan President Kagame Not Coming to Malawi

Malawi government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed a press statement circulating on social media alleging that Rwandan President Paul Kagame would visit the country.

The fake statement signed by Presidential Secretary Sean Kampondeni indicated that Kagame would arrive in the Country on 20th August to hold a bilateral talk with President Lazarus Chakwera.

It also alleged that President Chakwera and the first lady Monica Chakwera would go on state visits to Namibia, Qatar, Germany and Kenya.

A statement dated 23 July 2020 signed by Principal Secretary said; “The said statement is not true”

The government has since advised Malawians to verify information with relevant authorities and desist from fabricating and spreading fake news.

  1. In the Trump country, when he was chosen POTUS he took his whole village to the White House. One of them is his son in-law who has all along wielded unchallenged policies and stamped his authority in matters concerning the running of the country as well as the residence of the POTUS.

Fast forward: Malawi seems to follow the same trend. Sean Kampondeni decides to reveal his father in-law’s itinerary without consulting or adhering to the official norm. This letter is just trying to clear the same rubble one in-law from the official residence authored, muddling and maddening the pond. There was some truth in the announcement, which unfortunately was decided singlehandedly and it was withdrawn after an outcry from the General public.
