Malawi government has called upon the security agencies in the country to have a common goal when it comes to issues deal with refugees and asylum seekers.
Principle Secretary in the Ministry of Homeland Security, who is also a commissioner for refugees, Kennedy Nkhoma made the appeal during the opening of a 2-day long workshop for officers from the judiciary, police and immigration department.
Nkhoma stressed out on the importance of observing both local and international laws, so that the rights of the refugees are not infringed.
He further warns that any refugee and asylum seekers who may break the law will be dealt with accordingly without looking at their status.
In her remarks United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Representative to Malawi, Fatima Mohammed-Cole Commended government for creating a conducive environment for refugees beating other countries in the world.
Mohammed further said that UNHCR in coordination with various stakeholders are assisting the refugees to have access to education and health services.
She also highlighted that the refugees are been in powered in various ways for them to be self reliant.
